A fragmentation approach for concrete in compression
Last modified: 2013-02-08
Abstract
An experimental investigation on drilled cylindrical concrete specimens in compression overa large scale range (1:19) has been carried out to evaluate the variation of some mechanicalparameters by varying specimen size. The peculiarity of the present investigation consistsin exploring very small specimen dimensions. The experimental results show scale effectson dissipated energy density rather than on uniaxial compressive strength. A theoreticalexplanation for such a phenomenon, based on the fractal hypothesis, is presented and acomparison between experimental and theoretical values is discussed.
