The present work is aimed at providing some expressions for stressdistributions due to U- and V-shaped notches in rounded bars under torsion, includingthe finite size effect. By taking advantage of the global equilibrium conditions, the shearstress distributions are determined not only in the vicinity of the notch root but also onthe entire net section of the shaft.The degree of accuracy of the new closed form relationships is checked by a number ofFE analyses carried out on finite size components subjected to torsion loads.
