Abstract
This paper studies cavitation in Al-Zn-Mg/Zr experimental alloy deformed by hot tensile tests (HW, Hot Working) at different temperatures (T) and strain rate (έ). Controlling and understanding of the mechanisms that determine cavitation is very important because cavitation reduces the hot workability of materials. Moreover it can cause premature fracture and serious problems on the mechanical properties of the finished workpieces. In this study, the metallographic analysis assisted by image analysis software has allowed to verify the influence of different microstructure (due to changing in chemical composition of alloys or to different heat treatments before the hot deformation) on the cavitation.
