SEPARAZIONE DEI SINGOLI MODI DI FRATTURA NELLA DELAMINAZIONE AI BORDI LIBERI DI LAMINATI IN COMPOSITO
Last modified: 2008-06-15
Abstract
A method to divide fracture modes in interface delamination of composite laminates is proposed. Owing
to the oscillatory behavior of stresses and displacements close to the crack tip, individual strain release
rates no longer exist. The Gi for finite crack extensions can be defined and then calculated by the Finite
Element method. The stress intensity factors are calculated by using a method based on the crack surface
displacement ratios.
The influence of fiber orientation and the coupling among opening, shearing, and tearing modes of
fracture are studied numerically. The results have shown that the mode 3 is the dominant mode for most
of layer orientations.
