Abstract
The present paper deals with the more widely employed techniques for crack length determination in
compact-tension (CT) specimens subjected to cyclic loading. Electrical potential drop and strain
measurements techniques were investigated and calibration curves for both methods are provided. The
curves were determined by an accurate finite element analysis. The calibration curves can be used for
different active lengths of strain gage in the strain measurements technique, and for different positions of
the measuring point in the electrical potential drop technique. Both calibration curves have been
experimentally verified.
